One of Wintec’s strategic goals is to lift Māori and Pasifika completion rates towards equitable levels alongside non-Māori and Pasifika. This aligns with the government’s strategic plan in moving Māori and Pasifika students from an inherited deficit position to a social equity position. Research shows that Māori and Pasifika ways of learning are strongly linked to their cultural ways of knowing and being.
Also, it’s about choice! All students learn differently and this has an influence on the ways we engage with knowledge and support opportunities. TKK adopts a holistic approach to their teaching and supports, underpinned by Māori & Pasifika philosophy and practice. Te Kete Kōnae provides a service that not only can meet the needs of Māori and Pasifika students, but has shown by its own popularity to meet the needs of non-Māori and non-Pasifika students also.
